Hyperthyroidism: Overactivity of the Thyroid Gland
What is Hyperthyroidism?
Hyperthyroidism occurs when an overactive thyroid produces more hormones than your body needs. The thyroid is a gland located in the front of your neck and the hormones it makes help your body regulate its use of energy. Thyroid hormones control your metabolism, body temperature, weight, heart rate, and more. Common symptoms of hyperthyroidism include rapid heartbeat, anxiety, excessive sweating and difficulty sleeping, among others.
